Origin
Its origin remains uncertain. It is often presented as a mutation of Aeonium ‘Garnet’, but this lineage is now debated, as it is for several cultivars sold as ‘Garnet’ variegata. Morphology suggests a relationship with this group, but no genetic origin has been confirmed.
Known names
‘Tianhe’ — most widespread name —, ‘Tian He’, ‘Tian-He’, 天和, 天和法師錦, ‘Heavenly Harmony’, ‘Green Garnet’, ‘Green Red Copper Pot White Brocade’, ‘Fanny Variegated’, ‘Zwartkin Fann’ and ‘Zwartkin Fann Variegata’. Tianhe (天和) literally means “Heavenly Harmony”.

Botanical description
Aeonium ‘Tianhe’ is a shrub-form variegata of unknown exact origin. In winter, the leaves display a broad green central band and cream-white lateral bands. With stronger light and rising temperatures, the cream areas first develop violet-to-purple tones and may later turn deeper red.
A morphology reminiscent of ‘Garnet’-type Aeoniums
The arrangement of young leaves and the strong contrast between the green centre and pale margins resemble several cultivars attributed, correctly or otherwise, to the ‘Garnet’ family. These claimed relationships should remain tentative without reliable botanical or genetic evidence.
Cultivation and behaviour
Growth is normal, offset production is good and no particular sensitivity has been reported. Avoid excessive moisture during hot periods and protect the plant from frost.
A cultivar with changing colours
Its transition from green and cream to violet, purple and red makes ‘Tianhe’ distinctive, even though its lineage remains unresolved.
