Derived from a mutation of Aeonium ‘Garnet White’, itself derived from Aeonium ‘Garnet’.
Known names:
‘Straight Flush’ — the principal international name —, ‘Tonghuashun’, ‘Tong Hua Shun’, 同花顺 (Tónghuāshùn), 铜花顺 / 銅花順, ‘Copper Flower’, and 铜花. The original Chinese name 同花顺 means a “straight flush” in poker and corresponds exactly to the English name ‘Straight Flush’. The form 铜花顺 is a homophonic variant evoking the copper coloration of the foliage.

Botanical description
Aeonium ‘Straight Flush’ is a shrubby variegated Aeonium from the ‘Garnet’ lineage.
This recent cultivar is distinguished by a particularly unusual mutation resembling the so-called “Big Bang” mutations, such as those observed in Aeonium ‘Spark Bang’.
Unlike classic Big Bang forms, which generally show a contrast dominated by green and black, ‘Straight Flush’ develops a much richer and more complex color palette.
A unique explosion of color
The main feature of Aeonium ‘Straight Flush’ is its strongly contrasted foliage, composed of multiple shades blended as irregular streaks and mottling.
- green chlorophyll-rich areas;
- very pale areas ranging from cream-white to ivory;
- pink and purple tones;
- more intense red shades;
- dark areas that can approach black.
This random combination of colors gives each rosette an almost unique appearance, with foliage reminiscent of certain gemstones or naturally painted patterns.
This chromatic richness probably explains the name ‘Straight Flush’, referring to an exceptional poker hand and, here, suggesting an unusual combination of colors.
Spectacular seasonal changes
Like many strongly colored variegated Aeoniums, ‘Straight Flush’ appears to express its full potential when light conditions become favorable.
During winter or under lower light, contrasts are generally softer, with cream, green, and pink tones more prominent.
As light levels, temperatures, and water stress increase, red and purple pigments intensify, dark areas deepen, and the contrasts among the different foliage zones become stronger.
In summer, under strong light, it can therefore develop particularly spectacular red and black tones.
A recent mutation that still needs observation
Because Aeonium ‘Straight Flush’ is a recent cultivar, information about its long-term cultivation behavior remains limited.
- the stability of its mutation;
- its ability to retain the different variegated zones;
- its growth vigor;
- its tolerance of summer conditions.
Early observations are nevertheless promising, and the cultivar already has obvious ornamental interest because of its highly unusual foliage.
A variegated Aeonium with extraordinary colors
With its unusual mixture of green, ivory, pink, red, and black, Aeonium ‘Straight Flush’ belongs to a new generation of variegated Aeoniums selected for increasingly original patterns and color variation.
Still poorly documented, it will require further observation before its horticultural potential can be fully assessed, but its unique appearance has already made it highly sought after by collectors.
