Among the many Aeonium variegata lines that have appeared in recent years, those derived from Aeonium ‘Green Cashmere’ are still surrounded by many questions. Unlike some cultivars whose history is well documented, the exact origin of ‘Green Cashmere’ remains uncertain today.
This Aeonium, however, seems to have played an important role in the emergence of several variegata mutations recently spread in China. Like many modern cultivars, its history still relies on collectors’ observations and morphological comparisons rather than official information from the breeders.
This page aims to gather the currently available knowledge on Aeonium ‘Green Cashmere’ and the various variegated forms that could come from it. Since information may evolve with new discoveries, your comments and observations are welcome to help enrich this database.
Aeonium ‘Green Cashmere’, a cultivar with uncertain origins
Before looking into its variegated mutations, it’s necessary to introduce Aeonium ‘Green Cashmere’, the supposed parent plant of this line.
The exact origin of this Aeonium is still unknown.
Aeonium ‘Green Cashmere’ seems to be fairly common in China, where it has been grown and shared among collectors for several years.
Its appearance can also be confused with Aeonium ‘Pseudotabuliforme,’ especially during the growth period. Both cultivars have a flattened rosette with broad, rounded leaves, giving a generally similar impression.
However, several differences allow them to be distinguished. The main one concerns the texture of the foliage: the leaves of ‘Green Cashmere’ have a slightly velvety surface, while those of ‘Pseudotabuliforme’ are perfectly smooth.

Origin
Unknown
Aeonium ‘Green Cashmere’ might come from Aeonium ‘Velour,’ but this hypothesis remains to be confirmed.
An interesting lead also suggests a possible link with Aeonium × wildpretii, a natural or horticultural hybrid resulting from the cross between Aeonium arboreum and Aeonium canariense.

Aeonium x wildpretii and a reversion of Glaze.
